Short Memory?

Was teaching Little Arielle by using the board book that I bought for her. Her memory seems to be short leh! Went through the list of items in the book once with her and when I go through with her again, she can only remember 2 new items (cos some of the other items she already knows). Hmm is it because of short memory or that's how a kid's memory works at this age???
