Durian Mania

The fun started at 6am today! Huh why so early? Yeah, cos we would be driving up to Desaru for some durians and fun with another 8 CRVs! So Little Arielle was already all ready for her fun as she too also woke up at about the same time as me! In fact, was a bit shaken last night as to whether to bring her along or not cos she is still coughing and mama has volunteered her services to look after her for today. But, we just want her to be in the fun too. So I just packed the cough syrup too so that she can take it today.

We went to pick up his cousin, Adam and girlfriend (Yanling) first before meeting them at the SPC near the Tuas checkpoint. Other than the 8 CRVs, the convoy leader would be a RAVA4 car driven by WW. Hmm, why a “foreign” car? Cos he knows the way to the durians hee!

Just when everyone was getting excited, I realized that Little Arielle was wet! Alamak, not sure if it is because XP did not wrap her diaper properly, her romper and the car seat were wet! Xianz lor cos we are in the middle of the road and there is no way that we can stop. So gotta, let her sit on my lap instead. Worst of all, she developed runny nose! Her mucus was flowing like a tap! Jiat lard leh! Kind of regret bringing her along!

Traffic was smooth at the checkpoint so I thought that we would be able to fulfill every item on the itinerary as follows:

1. Breakfast at Gelang Petah
2. Visit to Crocodile farm
3. Visit to Fruit farm and enjoy some durians there
4. Stop over for lunch
5. Stopover at Desaru beach
6. Visit to Ostrich farm
7. Seafood dinner before we leave for Singapore

But well, too bad, things doesn’t usually go as planned cos one of the drivers overslept and as a result, we ended up waiting for them at the Petronas petrol station in Malaysia (the nearest one to the Malaysia customs). So we took the chance to change Little Arielle into a set of dry clothes and most importantly, a new diaper. Placed her wet romper on the seat to dry cos the sun was shining directly on it. After she was done, Adam and gf carried her into the mart to enjoy the air-con, while I took the opportunity to relax and chat with one of the driver’s wife. It was indeed a long wait for the last driver and I think we had easily waited for more than an hour.

So it’s confirmed that we will miss the visit to the crocodile farm! So sad leh! Anyway, the last driver was very apologetic when he arrived cos the whole gang of 20 over people was waiting for him and his friends! So we quickly move off for our breakfast as everyone was really hungry. Luckily, the drive was only 5 minutes away. We ate some fried carrot cake, chee cheong fun and Little Arielle had some bao. Thereafter, as there was still some time left, Little Arielle had the chance to enjoy some kiddy rides. We inserted coins for her to enjoy the motion ride instead of the usual motionless ones!

After everyone was ready, we proceeded to the first destination – Desaru Fruit Farm. Little Arielle finally decided to have her short nap. Still wanna ask me for her tu-tu leh! Her timely was right as she woke up when we reached the farm. Wow, we were welcomed by durians! Cos that is the first fruit that we saw at the farm! So before we have the chance to try, we decided to go for the farm tour which costs RM15 per person. This is indeed an educational tour as we get to see the various fruit tress and most important of all, the durian tree! So exciting leh, I saw the fruit hanging on the tree! Was telling XP that I only saw a durian tree at the age of 30 whereas Little Arielle saw one barely before 2. Good life hor! Almost coming to the end of the tour, we were quite stressful cos Little Arielle was hungry and she kept saying,”Milk, Milk, Milk, Milk.” Luckily, we managed to give her her milk in a short while. The tour ended up with a short talk on honey. As usual, they are trying to get tourists like us to buy their honey back but too bad, no one in the group is interested. This tour also included a box of complimentary fruit. Buay pai hor!

So, we decided to enjoy the fruits by the beach as everyone is more interested to have a taste of the durians! Wat she, durians in Singapore were really much more x as compared to those in Malaysia. That’s the difference if you are the supplier country. Per kg is only about RM6 – RM10 and you can get relatively good tasting durians. So the group ordered a few to share. Little Arielle cannot stand the sight of us eating the durians without her. So she kept asking us to give some to her. I was reluctant to give as her cough is still on. But looking at her pitiful face, we can’t help but let her eat a bit hee! Other than eating there, we also packed some back. XP was willing to do so cos they would pack it in containers and they will seal it with bao xian zi. Else he would definitely not wanna bring the whole fruit back!

After everyone is happy with the tabao-ing of durians, we proceeded to have some lunch. Most of us were more thirsty than hungry as the weather is really a killer but then again, it’s better than rain! Next stop, Desaru beach. Well the main purpose of coming to the beach is for photo-taking. Not so much of going for a swim or a stroll by the beach. We also took the chance to eat up our complimentary fruits. Hmm, not too bad, it has guava, dragonfruit, watermelon, honeydew, bua long long, shui weng, pineapple and mango. So much variety and most of it are sweet!

So after the photo-taking session with the group, we will proceed to the final sight-seeing spot for this trip ~ Ostrich farm. This is another educational tour as we get to see and feel a real-life ostrich egg, witness how they extract the egg from the egg-shell and also to feed the ostrich. The ostrich egg is really big and 1 egg is equaivalent to 25 chicken eggs. Even though so, ostrich egg is healthier as it contains more egg-white which means more calcium. We paid the entrance fee of RM10 per person and we get to see all the live ostrich and a live demonstration of the extraction of the egg from the egg-shell. Little Arielle had the chance to feed the ostrich and also to sit on one. So dun worry if you forgot about the experience as mummy will document it in this blog! After the tour, we got the chance to taste ostrich meat. Hmm, for the fun of it, I tried 2 mouths but kept having the impression that it looks like beef leh. Anyway, ostrich egg omelette taste real good hee!

After the tour, it brings us to the last destination for today’s trip. We had seafood at this restaurant. XP mentioned that we went to the opposite restaurant before a few years back when we cycled here. So, I slowly recalled and yes, we are at Pegarang. Time flies leh, the last round that we were here was easily about 5-6 years back. Din expect that this time’s visit is with Little Arielle.

The food took a relatively long time to arrive. Luckily, Little Arielle had her bao and her cutlery to keep her occupied. I supposed good food are meant to have long waits. Finally when it arrived, we really loved the dishes. Can eat such nice food at real cheap prices! This can never be found in Singapore!

At last, time to say goodbye to this place as we head back to Singapore. Gave Little Arielle her milk and was surprised that she can doze off while drinking. Hahaha, guessed she must be really tired! Thought that I will be able to rest a while until we reached Singapore but who knows, half way through the trip, she suddenly woke up crying bitterly. Dun noe is it because she had a nightmare, or she is not feeling well or she is frustrated cos she is too hot? Asked her what happened but she refused to say. Luckily, the group stopped by the side cos they spotted a durian stall. So we all went down to take a look and at least Little Arielle can be distracted by the people around as well as durians. She stopped crying in a while. After some of them got more durians, we continued with our journey. Managed to pat Little Arielle back to sleep. I wanted to also take a short nap but was unable to do so as the backseat was really too uncomfortable. In addition, I had to share with Adam’s gf and thus I dun have any space to move around at all. Poor me….My back almost spilt into two. Thank god that we managed to take a shorter cut and ended up clearing the Singapore customs in 20 minutes. Managed to overtake easily 100-200 cars. So you can imagine how long the queue was. Quickly drive Little Arielle to Tampines and deposited her with mama as we had to wake up early the next day. Therefore, have decided to leave her there overnight so that we will not be so rush in the morning.

Sent Adam and gf home and we ourselves reached home at about 11.30pm. Quickly took a shower and in no time, our heads hit the pillows….
